Double page spread final

To go alongside my magazine front cover I decided to make a double page spread

To maintain consistancy thrpoughout my work I used the same hand drawn patterned background as the cover

I then overlayed a white transparent box so the text would be legible over the busy background

I added my title in the same font and gave it a cental alignment to give it hierrachy over the page and draw the readers eye

I added my images which relate to the context of the article

I added my texts into two collums making sure that the text was left aligned. I made the subheadings pink to make them stand out from the main body text. I paragraphed each section so it breaks the text up and makes it appealing to the eye

Using my polyprinted spiral design I overlayed this over the whole double page spread. I then multiplied it so the colours blended nicely. I really liked the use of bright pink as the warm colour adds contrast to the rest of the cool colour scheme used

I then added my subheading

At this point I thought I was done but after reviewing my work I thought I could make some improvements.

I added a page number....

....and the magazine name. I used the same fonts/colours to keep consistancy

I added a drop capital in the colour of my subheadings

I then felt that there was too much white space as the idea of this double page spread was for it to look busy. I then added in a quote from one of the band members

This is my completed magazine double page spread.

Final Piece Magazine Cover

I started with my original image in Photoshop.

Using the lasso tool I drew around the outside of the boys I wanted to use in my magazine cover. I then deleted the background so I was left with lots of white space.

I added a new layer layer underneath the boys. Using the polygonal tool i drew a perimeter around the boys. I deleted the rest of the layer so I was left with a white outline. I then added a drop shadow to create depth.

I added a yellow layer below the boys. Using the polygonal tool I drew a spiky border around the boys which I then added a drop shadow to to further create depth within my work.

I then experimented with different colours and backgrounds. I liked the high contrast of the orange and the blue.

For my background I used a pattern which I had hand drawn into photoshop. I scanned it into photoshop used the threshold levels to make it pure black and white then selected the black layer and added a gradient in complimentary colours.

I then layered my image of the boys onto my background.

Using poly print I used a craft knife to cut it into spiked shapes. I then used black ink to print it in a rotating design. I then scanned this into photoshop and used the threshold to make it pure black and white. I used the eraser tool to neaten up any smudges

I added a centred title then layered my spiral print on top of my design. I changed it to a bright pink to contrast the rest of the colours used and used the overlay tool to blend it together. This added texture and depth.

I then added my text boxes in the high contrasting colours of purple and yellow. This made it stand out. I added a drop shadow to the boxes and to the text to create more depth. I altered the opacity levels of the boxes so they weren't so harsh on the eye.

I collected images of bands which relate to the context of my magazine. I then drew a circle over the image in a bright colour. I then altered the opacity levels. I then used the eraser tool to remove the remainder of the image and copy and pasted it into my main magazine cover.

I then repeated this for another 2 images

I added a strap line to the bottom of the magazine which is a common feature. I used complimentary colours of text alongside the box.

I added text to the images to state what they were and altered the shape of them to form an arch around the circles.I then arranged the text to make it symmetrical.

This is my finished magazine cover.
